Serene Salon & Spa
Part puzzle, part design challenge, this Aveda Concept Hair Salon had to fit program, design, technical and code requirements into a 24’ wide 1,199 square foot plan. By keeping the space under 1,200 square feet the shop met code with one bathroom, more than adequate for the use, instead of two which was key to keeping th project on budget. A curving wall the length of the salon that is full height in the front and back while forming a large soffit in the center gives each of the many functions (waiting, product sales, hair cutting, coloring and washing, plus back of the house rooms) it’s own distinct space. The mostly glass “butterfly” storefront nudges the front waiting, product sales and welcome desk into the interior street inviting guests and potential customers to come inside. The curved product nook with custom laser cut ⅛” thick steel shelving displays the extensive Aveda product line. The service area is gently screened from the entrance with specially designed screens, inviting views of the stylists working their craft without intruding on the customers. Other custom designed details including the reception desk and mirrors tie it all together while finish colors, lighting and other fixtures selected by the owner make the shop fully her own.
